If you have a physical or mental disability, it is important to consider any limitations in career choice. For example, if you are
injured and can no longer sit or stand for long periods, or can no longer lift more than a gallon of milk, it would be wise to plan
for a new sedentary occupation with the option to sit or stand. If you tend toward impatience, easily lose your temper, or have
frequent mood swings, it would likely be best to plan a career in a field that limits work with the public.
As a part of the
vocational planning process, HSO provides testing and career development services that help individuals plan for careers and jobs
they will be able to sustain for many years. For some, this will also help break patterns of short term jobs or unsuccessful work
attempts due to the effects of a poor match between occupations or jobs, and one's individual characteristics.
